Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is the best place for bird watchers. The reserve spreads over Saptari and Sunsari district in East Nepal over the embankments of River Koshi. The reserve has been recognized as a Wetland site from 1987. It is 90 minutes drive (40km) from Biratnagar which is 50 minutes by air or 541km by road from Kathmandu.
The reserve is famous for its 439 species of birds, some of which fly all the way from Siberia during winter. Animals found here are wild buffalo, wild boar, hog deer, spotted deer, blue bell and jackal. Gharial crocodile and Gangetic Dolphin are other attraction of this reserve. The most famous activities are Game Viewing, Bird Watching, Jungle walk etc.
